erity in the country. India is on the verge of becoming a major global economy, and the demand for skilled manpower in various key sectors in India is growing at a tremendous rate. Power is a prime mover of the Industry and the Indian Power Sector is poised for a huge addition in Generation, Transmission and Distribution capacity to provide 24 X 7 electricity all over the country. To make this possible the power sector projects a minimum additional 11 lakh skilled workforce by 2022. With the latest thrust of Government of India for 175 GigaWatts of renewable energy, the requirement of skilled workforce quantum jumps to nearly twice the earlier projections. Meanwhile, on the supply side, India's population continues to grow and the country today has one of the highest number of people in the world who fall in the working age group. This continuing demographic dividend can provide for the nation’s growing need for workers. However, a significant percentage of India's huge workforce lacks employable skills due to lack of education, training facilities, inadequate skilling, or lack of quality vocational training. This workforce needs to be skilled (or re-skilled / up- skilled) to improve employability and to ensure for them a livelihood pathway.
