IAPEN-Mangaluru Chapter

On the occasion of the National Nutrition Month Celebration 2023, the IAPEN INDIA Mangaluru Chapter organized following events:
• *Diet camp* was conducted on 5 th September by Dietitians of Father Muller Medical college, Mangalore, on the outpatient department of the hospital. More than 130 participants were assessed for nutritional status and counselled using posters for better understanding.
• *Awareness Program* - by Department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics of Alva’s College ,Moodbidri conducted the event in Govt. Higher Primary School, Bajire, Belthangady Taluk, Dakshina Kannada with an inclusion of 98 beneficiaries. Awareness was created on the topic Healthy choices and impact of junk foods on general health and wellbeing by performing a skit. Activities are conducted to impart knowledge on Food guide Pyramid, Nutrients and its deficiency disorders, tips for enriching a meal with locally available nutrient rich food items. The program was concluded by distributing supplementary foods.
• *Webinar* on “Affordable Healthy Diet for Food Security “held on September 9th, 2023, Dr.Vijayarani , HOD , V.V.Vaniyaperumal college , Tamil Nadu was the resource person . The event was based on the NNW theme. Resource person well informed the participants regarding Food Security, Food Wastage and planning a diet with locally available nutrient dense food

The achievement is of Dr Shilpa Varma being the first Indian to have won the prestigious MNI GRANT AWARD of 30,000 Euros.
MNI grant rewards national initiatives or research projects for Optimal Nutritional Care and this grant will be used to fulfill the goals if this project.
This was not just a project but a vision brought to light by Dr.Shilpa Varma, Dr.Mansi Gupta Patil and Ms. Datta Patel.

Bringing this accolades to IAPEN INDIA is truly commendable and it's a real pride for all of us.

Dr.Shilpa Varma recieved this from ESPEN Chairman Prof Rocco Barazzoni, Cristina Cuerda, MNI President Angelika Müller, Catherine Hartmann.
