Scarcity of water will affect food production and there will be no answer to the frantic cries of the cities and villages for water between individuals, states and nations, and progress adversely affected due to lack of power. In recent years trees have so badly lopped that they are left only with a crown of green top; herbal collections on massive scales by agents of drug plant owners; uncontrolled grazing by animals; forests set on fire by villagers to get better growth for grazing with no thought for wild animals and birds; fish being electrocuted in mountain streams; large forest areas encroached upon by farmers and tourism developers; forest rest houses demolished by ‘timber looters’; barren, hollowed out hillsides due to mining; murder of the majestic deodars by cutting a hollow at the base of the trunk and then setting it on fire. Land, water and forests resources are being degraded and depleted at a galloping speed. With over-exploitation for agricultural purposes and to meet the ever-increasing demands of the cities, the sub-soil water is receding at an alarming rate. If the rivers too go dry, the holocaust can well be imagined. Deforestation will lead to desertification as is happening in parts of China where the desert sand dunes are spreading at the rate of 200-sq-kms per month. Deforestation
Forests are critical for preserving the green covering on mountain soils. Extensive deforestation and grazing results in barren surface, soil erosion and porosity. The porous soil, during the monsoons and cloud bursts, soaks in water gets loosened and whole mountain sides slide down taking with them trees, farm lands, villages and finally damming the rivers-leaving behind barren scars on the mountains which will further increase erosion. Most vulnerable to this kind of nature’s fury are the run-of-the-river schemes Hydel projects and big gravity dams especially when their catchment areas have been deforested. “Among mountains, I am the Himalaya” (Bhagvat Gita) - this was the pride with which our ancestors and sages looked up to the most beautiful, majestic and mighty snow-capped mountains. Today, however, the same Himalayas are the most degraded mountains in the world - a eco-disaster in the making. Wisdom is required not to plunder but to preserve. It is time to wake up to this “last awakening call”, otherwise we are heading for the Himalayan eco-disaster and with it the “Last Bugle Call”. Hadimba or Dhungiri temple in Manali is one of the most important temples in the region. This four-story wooden temple is located in the middle of a forest called the Dhungiri Van Vihar. On the left bank of the Beas, 5-km from Manali near the village of Prini, is the 'Arjun Gufa' or the cave of Arjuna. In here Arjuna practised austerities to get Pashupata Ashtra or weapon from Lord Indra. Beas Kund:
Further ahead is the Beas Kund. The tiny roundish igloo like stone hut shelters the Beas Kund, the very source of the holy river Beas. Water flows at the source of the river likfe a spring, so clear and icy cold that it almost numbs the fingers. All around is the rocky terrain with very little vegetation. A few mules graze around while all and sundry try to brave the wind on a clear sunny day. Rohtang Pass (13-kms):
Situated about 50-km from Manali town, at an altitude of 4,111m on the highway to Keylong, is the Rohtang Pass. There is a beautiful Dasohar Lake left of the Pass. The Pass, which provides the only access to the Lahaul Valley, is open from June to November each year. Snowfall is, however, unpredictable and blizzards can close the Pass even during this period. Here one sees the majesty of the mountains at its height and splendour. A few km away from the pass is the Sonapani glacier and, slightly to the left are the twin peaks of Gaypan-jagged pyramid of rock, snow streaked and snow crowned

The Mountaineering Institute located at Manali provides training facilities for basic and advance climbing both for Indian nationals and foreigners. This institute also conducts other adventurous sports activities like high altitude trekking, minor mountaineering, rock-climbing, skiing, and high altitude rescue and relief courses. The institute has sufficient lodging and boarding arrangements and equipment can be hired for trekking purposes

Rafting in Manali:
The Beas river flowing through Kullu valley is suitable for not only white water rafting but is ideal for canoeing and kayaking too. The Beas River from the Manaki to Jhiri near Bajaura in Kullu district has become very popular among the lovers of river rafting and many competitions have been organised in the same. The trip starts from Mohal and covers a total distance 10-kms. The season normally starts from May to mid-June and rest depends on the arrival of monsoon. The various clubs provide the basic equipment required for the water sports
Skiing in Manali:
Near Manali there are some slopes, which have been rated the best for skiing in the world. The Solang Nullah, Patalsu, Kothi, Marhi and Rohtang slopes are very good for skiing in the winters as well as in summers. In fact Patalsu and Rohtang slopes are the only places where one can do summer skiing. The slopes are being further developed to accommodate more trainees and tourists. The national level skiing competition is held on the slopes of Solang Nullah and the winter carnival is organised at Manali. The place has immense potential to offer some world-class ski slopes and they are being developed on the same lines. There are private organisations that provide training as well as equipment for skiing. The Mountaineering Institute has put up a small ski lift at Solang Nullah.

Paragliding in Manali:
Paragliding is a combination of hang gliding and parachuting. In parachuting one has to jump from an aircraft whereas in paragliding one has to run down hill. The slopes of Solang Nullah provide just the right kind of slopes for paragliding during summers. There are organisations, which offer packages for paragliding. One can hire equipment from the private organisations in Manali and around.

Buddhism In Himachal Pradesh
Buddhism in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh can be traced back to the spread of Buddhism in the early eighth century. Over the centuries this activity has become deeper rooted, particularly in the Lahaul, Spiti and Kinnaur valleys of Himachal Pradesh. After the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, escaped from Tibet with his followers in 1959 and took refuge in India, the focus on Tibetan Buddhism spread further and attracted immense international sympathy and support. The Dalai Lama found Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh as an ideal place to establish his “capital in exile” at McLeod Ganj in close vicinity to Dharamshala, and is called the Little Lhasa and also as Dhasa (a combination of Dharamshala and Lhasa in Tibet). This situation has given the state a unique status in the global firmament of Buddhist traditions. It is now the cradle of Tibetan Buddhism, with its undeniable link to the past activities initiated in the 8th century (in 747 AD) by Guru Padmasambhava (who went to Tibet from Rewalsar in Himachal Pradesh in North India to spread Buddhism), who was known as the "Guru Rinpoche" and the “Second Buddha. The influence of Buddhism is strong throughout the Trans-Himalayan region or Western Himalayas, formed by the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and bounded by the Indus River on the extreme west and the Tons-Yamuna River gorge on the east.[5] With the influx of Tibetan refugees into India, in the last over 50 years (since 1959), popularity and practice of Tibetan Buddhism has been notable. Apart from the original practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism in ancient and medieval India, it is now seriously pursued by Tibetans re-settled at Dharamshala (the nodal centre and the 'capital in exile' of the Dalai Lama were initially re-settled) in Himachal Pradesh, Dehradun (Uttar Pradesh), Kushalnagar (Karnataka), Darjeeling (West Bengal), Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Ladakh. It's the abundant beauty of Himachal that gives its people their character of simplicity and modesty. History
The ancient history of Himachal Pradesh like many other region of India is lost in obscurity because of the lack of accurate source material. The First evidence of human civilization in Himachal came in the shape of Palaeolithic tools in kangra and Guler. Himachal history took a major turnaround 3,000-2500B.C. when the Aryans crossed the Ravi as part of their northward expansion. These people moved to the hills of present day Himachal Pradesh. Where they could live peacefully and preserve their way of life According to the Rig-Veda (Sacred Hindu Texts) many human tribes occupied the hills of Himachal and other areas before the arrival of the Aryans. The non-Arayan tribes of the Koles, the Kiratas , the Kinnaras, the Yakshas and the Nagas, lived here prior to the Arayans. Himachal has a history of several princely hill states with areas divided among themselves for cultural and economic reasons. The famous ones have been the princely states of Kangra, Chamba, Bilaspur Kullu & Shimla regions. Many old forts and monuments in Himachal are live example of former Hill states. Jammu Kashmir is the first Himalayan state of India, but its not another hill land of India. The popular Hafiza dance performed by Kashmiri women to the accompaniment of Sufiana Kalam was later replaced by the Bacha Nagma, performed by young boys dressed like women. The Bhand Jashna or the "festival of clowns", a 300- to 400-year-old genre of Kashmiri folk theatre performed in village squares, satirizes social situations through dance, music and clowning. Lying in the north of the vast and bountiful expanse of India and cradled in the awesome beauty and calm serenity of the stately Himalayas, Uttaranchal - the "Devbhumi" that has attracted tourists and pilgrims from world over since time immemorial. The Great Himalayan Range forms the backbone of the Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttaranchal. In Eestern Garhwal, it includes the Swargarohini range with Swargarohini I (6,252m) at the head of the Tons River, and the Bandarpunch range, including Bandarpunch (6,316m) forming the main divide between the headwaters of the Yamuna and the Bhagirathi Rivers. The main Himalayas extends to the Gangotri region, where a huge concentration of peaks almost encloses the Gangotri glacier. The peaks include Yogeshwar (6,678m), Sri Kailash (6,932m) and Mana Parbat (6,794m) to the North; and Kedarnath (6,490), Kedar Dome (8,831m) and Bhirigupanth I (6,772m) to the south. Up at the head of the glacier, the Chaukhamba range, including Chaukhamba I (7,068m), provides an impressive divide between the headwaters of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda Rivers. To the east of Badrinath, the peaks of Nilgiri Parbat (6,474m), Ghori Parbat (6,708m) and Hathi Parbat (6,727m) are the highest of the Himalayan peaks, while to the North, Kamet (7,756m), Mana Peak (7,272m), Abl Gamin (7,355m), and Mukut (7,242m) are some of the 7,000m peaks forming the main axis of the Zanskar range. With the exception of the remote valleys to the North of the Great Himalayan Range, the Uttaranchal region is subject to the Indian monsoon. Arrive Aut and transfer to Shoja through the scenic Tirthan valley. A confluence of Parvati & Tirthan Rivers at Larji offer magnificent fishing beats. After crossing a small but busy town of Banjar, the road winds through terraced field & fruit orchards. Streams joining the river at Jibhi & Giyagi offer spectacular landscapes dotted with small grain grinding huts. After Giyagi, the access to Shoja winds through thick forests of alpine trees, which provide an untouched Habitat to various species of flora & fauna. Day 01: Delhi – Shimla
On arrival at Delhi, our representative heartily greets you and assists to transfer you to Shimla (343 kms / 8 hrs). Shimla is no doubt the most beautiful tourist spot in Himachal Pradesh and is also the capital city of the state. Set amidst the Shivalik Mountains, Shimla offers stunning view of the snow capped mountains and gorgeous view of the scintillating natural vistas. On arrival check in at hotel and enjoy the dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. Day 02: Shimla
Morning after breakfast, we go for a full day excursion to the picturesque and famous Skiing resort Fagu and Kufri. After half day city tour, enjoy visit to the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Sankat Mochan Temple and Jakhu Temple. Later in the evening stroll in The Mall and The Ridge and enjoy shopping in the glittering shops as well as savour the delicious snacks and fast food at the exotic restaurants. Return back on time to the hotel for Dinner and overnight stay. Day 03: Shimla – Rewalsar Lake - Manali
Morning after breakfast, proceed your drive to Manali (320 kms/8 hrs). Manali is a picturesque hill station and one of the important hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Enroute visit to the Rewalsar Lake, which is considered to be the revered and holy spot for Hindus, Sikhs and the Buddhists. According to the myth and legend, it is believed that the great teacher Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche) used his enormous power to flight to Tibet. It is also believed that the Holy Spirit reside in the tiny island of the floating reed. After visiting to some holy temples and monasteries, continue your drive to Manali. Manali is a picturesque hill station and due to its outstanding natural beauty it is also famous as Switzerland of India. Morning after breakfast, we go for a city tour visiting some of the prominent tourist spots and attractions including Hadimba Devi Temple located in the serene ambiance of the wooded forests, Manu Temple, Tibetan Monastery and the exotic Vashisth Village. After the glorious tour enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the hotel in Manali. Day 05: Manali Excursion
Morning after breakfast, enjoy the full day excursion visiting to the beautiful Kothi Gorge, Gulaba, Marhi and the photographer’s delight Rohtang Pass. Rohtang pass is the most beautiful tourist spot in Manali having snow round the year. Tourist can enjoy the lovely view of the snow capped Himalayas, scintillating natural vistas and the heart grabbing surrounding draped in the dazzling charm of the nature. After visiting Solang valley return back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Day 06: Manali – Dharamshala
Enjoy the relaxed breakfast at the hotel and drive to Dharamshala 240 Km/7hrs. Dharamshala is amazingly gifted by the nature and has peaceful surrounding as well as it is here the holy Tibetan Guru Dalai Lama resides. Morning after breakfast, we go for a full day sightseeing tour of Dharamshala visiting to Mcleodganj; it is here His Highness Dalai Lama resides. At the start of the Mcleodganj is a small bazaar where lots of Tibetan Handicrafts and artifacts are put up for a show and sells. At the end lies the Namgyal Monastery which is also the major tourist attraction of Dharamshala. Inside the Monastery there are huge Buddha idols and the external walls are surrounded with rows of prayer wheels. After visiting to the St. John Church the final resting place of the Lord Elgin, a British Viceroy during the 19th Century India return back on time to the hotel for dinner and cozy overnight stay at the hotel in Dharamshala. Day 08: Dharamshala – Dalhousie
Morning after breakfast, drive on wheels to Dalhousie 130 Km 4 hrs. Dalhousie is amazingly beautiful and has charming forest trails that overlook the astounding vistas of the wooded forests, waterfalls, gorgeous springs and the dazzling rivulets. Dalhousie visit still give the essence of the colonial era as the place retains the age old charm and the colonial architectural splendour. After the early morning breakfast, we proceed to visit Khajjiar. Gifted with amazing natural beauty and vistas, Khajjiar is often called India’s Switzerland. Dotted with thick Deodar forest where the snow line rests above the wood and in the centre of the glade a small but picturesque lake fed by the perennial streams, traverse the green carpet. Khajjiar is the best imagination of the almighty as the blissful surrounding engulfs the heart of the tourist with its magnetic charm and beauty. Khajjiar is also the part of the exotic Kalatop-Khajjiar Sanctuary. After the sightseeing tour, return back on time to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Day 11: Dalhousie – Delhi
