To demonstrate how hyperlocal weather forecasting can support farmers in managing climate-related risks—particularly in livelihoods and poultry farming—Dr. Nairwita Bandyopadhyay visited Balarampur today and engaged with a group of nine women lead farmers.
During the session, she explained how the forecasting model operates at the village level and how it enables timely, informed decision-making in distress situations. She also highlighted the dissemination of daily weather updates through accessible platforms like WhatsApp, using visual formats and voice notes to ensure clarity and ease of use.
The interaction was highly participatory, with the women farmers expressing strong interest and sharing their experiences. Their insights will play a valuable role in further refining and strengthening the service for the community.

This Women’s Day, we proudly celebrate a meaningful milestone under the IRRI project at Balarampur. ✨
We had the opportunity to work closely with the incredible women of Balarampur with a vision to empower them and strengthen their leadership abilities. Through this initiative, we supported them in building confidence to sustain and grow their poultry farming businesses.
Alongside livelihood support, we also introduced digital literacy training so that they can navigate the digital world with confidence and independence. Today, we are proud to see these women stepping forward, raising their voices, making decisions, and gaining confidence in the public sphere.
Their journey towards empowerment is truly inspiring, and being a part of this transformation is our biggest achievement this Women’s Day.
Here’s to stronger, confident, and empowered women of Balarampur! 💜
