In a country like India with a population of about 1.3 Billion , this translates to a population running into millions.
What does that mean to you?
It means that you would be meeting someone on the Autism Spectrum in your lifetime who may or may not look like they are struggling with Autism or may not even know that they have Autism but struggle to fit in to our society in their day to day interactions.
It means knowledge about Autism could mean that we could be kinder and build each other up.
Today is World Autism Awareness Day. Maybe we can spare a moment to do something as simple as googling 'how can I help a person with Autism' and start a journey to awareness.
Look what I got!
Kokachi and Makachi:Down to the village is a sweet story of 2 monsters who head to a dreaded human village ! But why?
The title intrigued me and evoked a wonderful sense of nostalgia. For a Malayali child, Kokachi &/or Makachi is the dreaded monster who would grab us if we didn't behave or so our parents /grandparents would vehemently threaten😄 . But it was truly a refreshingly sweet perspective to see the monsters terrified instead. Wonderful capturing of Malayli folklore and giving it a new twist.
This is the Kindle version. It has a colourful eye catching cover page and the B&W illustrations have a lovely Monsters Inc vibe to it. Would be interesting to children who are already reading independently.

🎀 Listening Skills: Paying attention when you say a story or give instructions
🎀Age adequate Expressive language: He/She is able to speak according to their age
🎀Phonemic Awareness: The awareness of letter sounds. This need to not necessarily mean that your child has mastered all the alphabet. But for eg when you say the sounds(not letters) d-o-g they should be able to link the sounds together to say the word 'dog' and so on..
🎀Concept of Print: That there is the front of the book and back , that there is left to right directionality when we read etc..
Though there are many other, these are considered major markers of future reading ability and are targetted during sessions with a professional

Communication with a child should always be about deliberate engagement. Take the time, slow down, forget perfection on your terms and see the world through their eyes. It's worth it.
