Explanation: Mumbai’s famous DC (Direct current) local trains have been doing their duty since their inception in 1925. But off-late the 1500-volt DC train lines have been converted into 25,000-volt AC (Alternating current) lines.

– The 9-car DC-make train that ran from Kurla at 11.30 pm on 9 April and reached Chhatrapti Shivaji Terminus (CST) at around 00.15 hours on 10 April was the last DC local train in Mumbai. This was the same route as the one taken by the train on 3 February 1925 – the date of Mumbai’s DC local train’s inception.

– The event was made special by the Central Railway as Mumbai’s art and rail lovers paid Rs 10,000 for a ride on this last DC train. The proceeds will be utilised to raise funds for the extensive droughts that face the state of Maharashtra currently. The event also marked live bands and art shows.

– Thus iconic train that came into existence 91 years ago in Mumbai retires retiring in an elaborately befitting farewell ceremony. The DC train was later hooked into the AC line.

– It is worth mentioning that the Supreme Court in May 2015 had laid down norms for government advertisements. The apex court had criticised “personality cult” terming it as an anti-thesis of democracy and barred publication of photos of leaders in government advertisements except those of the President, Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of India.

– The apex court had also directed the central government to constitute a three-member committee “consisting of persons with unimpeachable neutrality and impartiality” to regulate the issue of public advertisements.

The fire was caused due to a blast in the firework stockpile, which was arranged for a grand fireworks display during the temple celebrations.

– The building of the Devaswom Board, which runs temples in Kerala, collapsed due to the impact. Most injuries and death were caused when the explosion took place inside the fireworks storage room made of concrete and debris fell on the devotees. According to media reports at least 105 persons were killed and 350 injured in the accident.

– The fireworks display forms an important part of celebrations at the temple. Traditionally, there is even a competitive fireworks show organised at the temple. However, this year there was no competition, probably because of the local administration’s restrictions.

– Earlier she had made her first attempt to break the record in November 2015. However, she fell after dancing continuously for 87 hours and 18 minutes.

1) 29 जुलाई 2015 को दिवंगत होने वाली डॉ. सुनिति सॉलोमन (Dr. Suniti Solomon) के साथ भारतीय चिकित्सा जगत की क्या ऐतिहासिक घटना जुड़ी हुई है? – उन्होंने उस दल का नेतृत्व किया था जिसने वर्ष 1986 में चेन्नई में भारत में एच.आई.वी. (एड्स – AIDS) के पहले मामले की खोज की थी

विस्तार: डॉ. सुनिति सॉलोमन को भारत में HIV पीड़ित मरीजों के इलाज की शुरुआत करने के लिए भी जाना जाता है। उन्होंने ऐसे समय में इस बीमारी से ग्रस्त लोगों का इलाज करना शुरू किया जब भारत में अधिकतर चिकित्सक ऐसा करने से दूर रहना चाहते थे। उन्होंने भारत में HIV परीक्षण व परामर्श का पहला स्वैच्छिक केन्द्र चेन्नई में खोला था – Y R Gaitonde Center for AIDS Research and Education (YRG CARE)। भारतीय चिकित्सा जगत का एक अहम मुकाम उन्होंने तब हासिल हुआ जब वर्ष 1986 में उन्होंने चेन्नई (तत्कालीन मद्रास) के माइलापोर (Mylapore) में वैश्यावृति में लिप्त महिलाओं से HIV विषाणु के सैम्पल एकत्र किए थे। ये भारत में HIV के खोजे गए पहले मामले थे। इन एकत्र किए गए 6 सैम्पलों को पुष्टि के लिए वेल्लूर (Vellore) स्थित क्रिश्चियन मेडिकल कॉलेज (CMC) में भेजा गया था क्योंकि उस समय सब स्थानों पर एलीज़ा परीक्षण (ELISA Test) मौजूद नहीं था। बाद में और पुष्टि के लिए इन सैम्पलों को अमेरिका की जॉन हॉप्किन्स यूनीवर्सिटी (John Hopkins University) भी भेजा गया था। भारत में AIDS के पहले मामलों ने तब पूरे देश में हड़कम्प मचा दिया था।

विस्तार: तमिलनाडु के तटीय नगर रामेश्वरम (Rameswaram) में जब उनका अंतिम संस्कार किया गया तो पूरे भारत से आए लाखों लोगों के अभूतपूर्व जनसैलाब ने इस जनता के राष्ट्रपति को अश्रुपूर्ण विदायी दी। 28 जुलाई को शिलाँग (Shillong) में एक बड़े हृदयघात की चपेट में आकर दिवंगत हुए भारतीय जनता में बेहद लोकप्रिय अब्दुल कलाम की अंतिम यात्रा रामेश्वरम स्थित उनके पैतृक आवास से शुरू होकर स्थानीय पेइ कारुम्बू मैदान (Pei Karumbu ground) में समाप्त हुई जहाँ उन्हें सुपुर्द-ए-खाक कर दिया गया। उनके अंतिम समारोह का नेतृत्व प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने किया तथा इसमें कांग्रेस उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गाँधी समेत तमाम केन्द्रीय मंत्री, मुख्यमंत्री तथा तमिलनाडु के स्थानीय नेता शामिल हुए।

3) देश में टैक्स चोरी (Tax evasion) करने वाले तथा काला धन (Black Money) रखने वालों पर तकनीक की मदद से नकेल कसने के लिए केन्द्रीय वित्त मंत्रालय द्वारा तैयार की गई एक महात्वाकांक्षी परियोजना का क्या नाम है जिसके लिए हाल ही में 150 करोड़ की निविदा (Tender) आमंत्रित की गई है? – “प्रोजेक्ट इनसाइट” (“Project Insight”)

विस्तार: “प्रोजेक्ट इनसाइट” (“Project Insight”) के तहत वित्त मंत्रालय तकनीक की मदद से टैक्स चोरी करने वाले तथा काला धन रखने वालों पर अपना शिकंजा कसना चाहती है। इस परियोजना के तहत ग्राहकों द्वारा विभिन्न प्रकार के लेन-देन (transactions) के लिए दिए गए पैन (PAN) नम्बर का मिलान उनके द्वारा भरे जाने वाले आयकर रिटर्न्स (IT returns) से किया जायेगा। इसके द्वारा कर चोरी पकड़ने की तमाम प्रक्रियाएं स्वत: क्रियान्वित हो जायेंगी जिनके लिए अभी तक पारंपरिक तरीकों के चलते काफी समय लगता था। इस परियोजना में कर चोरी की मात्रा के अनुसार ऐसे लोगों का वरीयता क्रम तैयार करने का प्रावधान भी किया गया ताकि सबसे पहले बड़े कर चोरों पर कार्रवाई की जा सके। वित्त मंत्रालय ने इस महात्वाकांक्षी परियोजना के लिए हाल ही में 150 करोड़ रुपए मूल्य की निविदा आमंत्रित की है जिसके द्वारा इस परियोजना में प्रयुक्त होने वाले डेटा एनालिटिक्स सॉफ्टवेयर (data analytics software) तथा अन्य तत्सम्बन्धित उपकरणों को हासिल किया जायेगा। खास बात यह है कि इस निविदा के लिए एक नॉन-डिस्क्लोज़र समझौता (non-disclosure agreement) भी करने का प्रावधान है जिसमें इस परियोजना के बारे में कोई भी संवेदनशील तथ्य सार्वजनिक ने हो सके।

4) वैश्विक मैनेजमेण्ट सलाहकार फर्म AT कियर्नी (AT Kearney) द्वारा हाल ही में जारी एक सूचकांक (Index) के अनुसार वर्ष 2014 के दौरान प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश (Foreign Direct Investment – FDI) हासिल करने में भारत विश्व के देशों की रैंकिंग में चार पायदान नीचे खिसककर 11वें स्थान पर पहुँग गया है। इस प्रतिष्ठित रैंकिंग में भारत किस वर्ष के बाद सर्वोच्च 10 से बाहर हुआ है? – 2002

विस्तार: AT कियर्नी द्वारा 29 जुलाई 2015 को जारी Foreign Direct Investment Confidence Index 2015 नामक सूचकांक के अनुसार वर्ष 2014 के दौरान FDI हासिल करने में भारत का स्थान 11वाँ है। इस वर्ष के दौरान भारत ने कुल 35 अरब डॉलर का FDI हासिल किया जोकि वर्ष 2013 के मुकाबले लगभग 26% अधिक था। लेकिन FDI हासिल करने के मामले अन्य देशों ने भारत के मुकाबले कहीं बेहतर प्रदर्शन किया जिससे भारत 4 स्थान नीचे गिर गया। यह वर्ष 2002 के बाद पहला मौका है जब भारत इस सूची में सर्वोच्च 10 देशों में शामिल नहीं है। वर्ष 2013 में जहाँ उसे सातवाँ स्थान हासिल था वहीं दूसरे स्थान की सर्वोच्च रैंकिंग उसे वर्ष 2002 तथा 2007 में हासिल हुई थी। वहीं अमेरिका (US) ने लगातार तीसरी बार इस सूची में पहला स्थान हासिल किया है जबकि चीन (China) दूसरे स्थान पर रहा।

5) भारतीय रेल (Indian Railway) के उस कर्मचारी का क्या नाम है जिसे रु. 50,000 हजार रुपए का नकद ईनाम देने की घोषणा रेल मंत्रालय ने उसकी कर्तव्यपरायणता और सूझबूझ के लिए 29 जुलाई 2015 को की? – अश्विनी कुमार

विस्तार: अश्विनी कुमार (Ashwani Kumar) उत्तर रेलवे की फिरोजपुर डिवीजन के पठानकोट-अमृतसर रेल खण्ड में कीमैन (keyman) के पद पर तैनात है। 27 जुलाई 2015 को पंजाब के गुरदासपुर (Gurdaspur) में आतंकियों ने एक बड़ी घटना को अंजाम दिया था। इसी घटना से जुड़ी हुई घटना के तहत गुरदासपुर जिले के दीनानगर के पास पठानकोट-अमृतसर रेल लाइन की पुल संख्या 236 पर बमों की श्रॄंखला को लगे हुए अश्विनी कुमार ने 27 जुलाई की प्रात: गश्त के दौरान देख लिया था। उसने बिना वक्त बर्बाद किए इस रूट पर आ रही एक यात्री रेलगाड़ी (ट्रेन संख्या . 54612) की ओर दौड़ना शुरू कर दिया तथा झण्डी दिखाकर इस गाड़ी को सफलतापूर्वक रुकवा दिया। उसकी सूझबूझ से जहाँ गाड़ी में बैठी सैकड़ों सवारियों की जान बच गई वहीं भारतीय रेल का भी एक संभावित भयंकर दुर्घटना से बचाव हो गया। इसकी कर्तव्यपरायणता तथा सूझबूझ के कारण रेल मंत्री सुरेश प्रभु ने इसके लिए 50 हजार रुपए का नकद ईनाम 29 जुलाई को स्वीकृत कर दिया।

6) वर्ष 1993 के मुम्बई श्रॄंखलाबद्ध बम विस्फोट काण्ड (Mumbai serial blasts case) के एकमात्र पकड़े गए दोषी याकुब अब्दुल रज्जक मेमन (Yakub Abdul Razak Memon) को 30 जुलाई 2015 को सवेरे नागपुर सेण्ट्रल जेल (Nagpur Central Prison) में फाँसी की सजा दे दी गई। फाँसी की सजा से कुछ ही समय पूर्व भारत के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय (Supreme Court of India) के इतिहास में इस मामले के सम्बन्ध में क्या नया इतिहास बनाया गया? – सर्वोच्च न्यायालय की एक पीठ ने अपने इतिहास में पहली बार किसी याचिका पर देर रात सुनवाई की तथा अपना निर्णय सुनाया

विस्तार: उल्लेखनीय है कि सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के लम्बे इतिहास में यह पहला मौका था जब किसी मामले की सुनवाई के लिए इसकी किसी पीठ ने देर रात सुनवाई की हो। याकूब मेमन को 30 जुलाई को मौत की सजा देना पहले से तय था तथा इस मामले में उसे दया (mercy) प्रदान करने की याचिका भारत के राष्ट्रपति ने खारिज कर दी थी। लेकिन मेमन ने अपने अंतिम प्रयास के तहत 29 जुलाई को देर रात सर्वोच्च न्यायालय से गुजारिश की उसकी फाँसी की सजा को 14 दिन के लिए टाल दिया जाय क्योंकि दया याचिका खारिज होने (mercy rejection) और मृत्युदण्ड (ex*****on) के बीच 14 दिन का फासला प्राय: रहता है लेकिन उसके मामले में ऐसा नहीं किया जा रहा है। इस मामले की सुनवाई के लिए सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति एच.एल दत्तू के निवास पर 30 जुलाई को प्रात: 1:45 पर तीन-सदस्यीय पीठ का गठन किया गया तथा इस मामले की पहले भी सुनवाई कर चुके न्यायमूर्ति मिश्रा (Justice Mishra) को इस पीठ का नेतृत्व करने का काम दिया। इस पीठ के अन्य दो न्यायाधीश थे न्यायमूर्ति प्रफुल्ल पंत और न्यायमूर्ति अमिताव रॉय। इस पीठ ने याकूब मेमन की फाँसी के मामले की अपनी ऐतिहासिक सुनवाई प्रात: 3 बजे के बाद शुरू की तथा प्रात: 4:50 बजे फाँसी को टालने की इस याचिका को खारिज कर दिया। पीठ ने कहा कि मेमन की इस याचिका में कुछ भी नया नहीं है तथा उसकी फाँसी को पहले भी कई बार टाला जा चुका है। इसे अब और टालने का कोई औचित्य नहीं है। इस प्रकार इस पीठ ने इतने रात को अपनी सुनवाई कर एक नया इतिहास रचा। वहीं याकूब मेमन को तय समयानुसार 30 जुलाई को प्रात: 6:45 पर फाँसी की सजा दे दी गई। इसके बाद उसके शव को उसके परिवार वालों को सौंप दिया गया जिन्होंने नागपुर से मुम्बई ले जाकर उसका अंतिम संस्कार कर दिया।

विस्तार: स्विफ्ट डिज़ायर (Swift Dzire) मारुति सुज़ुकी की एण्ट्री लेवल की सब-कॉम्पेक्ट सेडान (sub-compact sedan) कार है जिसे वर्ष 2008 में लाँच किया गया था। यह पिछले तीन सालों से भारत में सबसे अधिक बिक्री वाली सेडान वर्ग की कार है। इसने जुलाई 2015 के दौरान 10 लाख (1 million) कार बिक्री का आंकड़ा पार कर लिया। यह अब भारत की छठवीं सबसे ज़्यादा बिकने वाली कार हो गई है। उल्लेखनीय है कि इससे अधिक बिक्री वाली अन्य पाँच कारें भी मारुति सुज़ुकी की ही हैं – ऑल्टो – Alto (28.3 लाख), मारुति 800 – Maruti 800 (26.7 लाख), ओम्नी – Omni (16.8 लाख), वैगन आर – WagonR (16.3 लाख) और स्विफ्ट – Swift (13.6 लाख)। लेकिन खास बात यह है कि इतनी बिक्री वाली स्विफ्ट डिज़ायर सेडान वर्ग की पहली कार है।
