📊 1. Fiscal Framework & Numbers

Fiscal deficit set at 4.3% of GDP for FY 2026-27, showing continued fiscal consolidation.

Total Budget size: ~₹53.5 lakh crore.

Capital expenditure (CapEx): increased to ₹12.2 lakh crore to drive infrastructure & growth.

Debt-to-GDP ~ 55.6%, with long-term target of ~50 ±1% by 2030.

🧾 2. Taxation Reforms (Direct & Indirect)

a) Direct Tax Changes

New Income Tax Act, 2025 to be effective 1 Apr 2026, replacing old 1961 law; aims to simplify tax structure & compliance.

MAT (Minimum Alternate Tax) reduced from 15% → 14% and made final tax (no credit carry-forward).

Buybacks of shares now taxed as capital gains for all shareholders.

b) TCS / TDS & Filing Changes

TCS on foreign remittances (education/medical/tour packages) reduced to 2% from higher slabs.

Extended window for revised returns up to 31 March of next year (with fee).

c) Indirect Tax & Customs

Customs duty exemptions on key capital goods & materials to boost exports and Make-in-India manufacturing.

Duty exemptions / relief for drugs & critical medicines (e.g., 17 cancer drugs duty-free).

Customs process simplification and digital cargo clearance push to improve ease of trade.
