Goal Setting
If you don't know where you want to go, it doesn't matter which path you take.
Well, that's the sad part of a goal setting exercise. Majority of employees and their managers struggle with the way goals are set, discussed and achieved.
And at most times, the focus is so much on the process and forms and not the 'intent' behind goal setting. The focus must be on providing a 'supportive autonomy' for your employees to connect to the larger goals and inspire to execute.

Love it, hate it but you can't ignore it. That's the thing about Performance Management.
Few good things to keep in mind : make it discussion based, not form focused; have a blend of right KRAs (hard and soft aspects), focus on performance engagement and not purely appraisal.
Communication is the key.
