World Health Day
“Play, eat, and grow healthy every day.”
Health isn’t just about hospitals; it includes clean water, safe streets, nutritious meals, and time to play and rest. When communities get these basics right, children learn better, adults work better, and everyone lives fuller lives. Small choices-like walking more, getting enough sleep, and sharing healthy meals-add up to big changes.
On the occasion of World Health Day, Sister Nivedita, The Play School, Ameerpet celebrated with great enthusiasm, aligning with the World Health Organization’s theme, “Together for Health: Stand with Science.” The objective of the day was to introduce young learners to the importance of health, hygiene, and environmental awareness, and to teach them how to take care of themselves.
To celebrate the day, the little learners stepped into the roles of junior chefs. The goal was to introduce healthy alternatives to sugary drinks by involving children in the preparation of two nutritional powerhouses-fresh watermelon juice and wholesome ragi malt.
The day began with a song about maintaining good health through small steps in our daily lives. This was followed by the tiny tots explaining how to prepare watermelon juice and ragi malt, along with their health benefits. Later, these two healthy drinks were served to every child. The children enjoyed refreshing glasses of fresh watermelon juice and homemade ragi malt. They sipped, smiled, and even asked for refills. Pink cheeks, happy sighs, and a chorus of “Again?” told us everything-healthy food can be tasty too!
This activity taught them about foods that help make their bones strong and bodies healthy. Many children were surprised to discover that a brown drink like ragi malt could be so delicious. The activity also engaged their senses of touch, smell, and taste as they explored different textures—from the grainy ragi flour to the juicy, fibrous watermelon. The day was a great success as the children were actively involved in the preparation process.
The Principal of the school, Dr. T. Lalitha Kumari, applauded the little ones for their enthusiastic participation and appreciated the teachers for organizing such a thoughtful Health Day celebration. She emphasized that introducing watermelon juice and ragi malt was a masterstroke in nutritional education. By replacing sugary processed drinks with these traditional superfoods, we are not only nourishing their bodies but also building a strong foundation for mindful eating.
The Chairman of the school, Dr. Sudhakar Rao Polsani, and the Correspondent of the school, Rtn. Harihara Prasad, emphasized the importance of good health and extended their best wishes to all the students on the occasion of World Health Day.

“Play-built skills, happy in the school premises.”
Tiny hands, tall focus: Tracing, puzzles, crawling lane,Hop-scotch jumps, mirror walks, towers that tumble — our little learners from Junior and Senior Discoverer spent their full week with bending, balancing and beaming. From cycling circles to colour matches, each game sneaks in fine- and gross-motor wins.
The skills are planned to bring the giggles among all the tiny tots of The Play School.
“Happy children through the gate - happily waiting to come back the next day.”
