कृष्ण कहते हैं की आसक्ति और घृणा दोनों ही आत्म- प्रवंचना है. यह दोनों ही स्वयं की रिक्तता से पलायन है. क्योंकि वह वस्तू या व्यक्ति जिस पर हम आसक्ति रखते है या घृणा करते है, हमारे लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण हो जाती है और हम सवयं के आत्म को भूल जाते है.
कृष्ण ने इसे अनासक्ति कहा और अनासक्ति की इस अवस्था को पाने के लिए दोनों स्थितियों को उदासीन रहकर स्वीकार करने के लिए कहा. कृष्ण के अनुसार अनासक्त मन वह है जो प्रत्येक चीज़ को उदासीन बने रहकर बिना किसी शर्त के स्वीकार कर ले. जब हम किसी को उदासीन अवस्था से बिना शर्त स्वीकार करते है तो वह हमारे मन कोई भी चिन्ह या छाप नहीं छोड़ता, मन बिना उस से प्रभावित हुआ या अछूता रहता है. लेकिन जब हम किसी से बहुत ज्यादा आसक्ति या घृणा करते है तो मन पर एक स्थाई निशान रह जाता है और हम कभी भी उस से पूर्णतः मुक्त नहीं हो पाते.

Krishna says that all our attachments and aversions are self-deception, it is an escape from the hollowness of the self. Because the things or person which we are attached to, become all important, the Self is not. That is why he insisted on freedom from attachments and aversions. He called it "anasakti" or non- attachment which means, accepting both without clinging to. A non-attached mind, according to Kishna, is one who accepts everything unconditionally, because when we accept something totally it does not leave a mark, a scar on our mind, our mind remains unscathed and undisturbed. But when we cling strongly to a thing our strongly averse to something it leaves a mark on our mind. And thus we are never free from our attachments and aversions.

We know that everything about us, within or without- be it this phenomenal world, our thoughts or our feelings are impermanent, are in a constant state of flux. But the mind craves for permanency, perpetual state of peace, of love, of goodness and security that neither time nor events can ever destroy.

But mind itself is impermanent, so can never perceive
permanency. It is only when we transcend our mind and move with life, timelessly pushing on, exploring, exploding- so that we can be eternally fresh, new and creative. Only then we can actually perceive reality, which is beyond all knowledge.

हम सभी में सदा से ही ईश्वर या अंतिम वास्तविकता को जानने एक गहरी प्यास रहती आई है. किन्तु हमारे लिए सत्य को जानना सदा ही बहुत मुश्किल और हमारी पहुंच के बाहर रहने के कारण हम ने स्वयं को ज्ञान से ही संतुष्ट करना शुरू कर दिया. समय के साथ साथ यही ज्ञान बेहद उलझा हुआ, मुश्किल और गोपनीयं बनता गया.
लेकिन ज्ञान कैसा भी हो, है तो वह मनुष्य द्वारा सृजित इसलिए अंततः एक बनावट ही है. यही कारण है की मनुष्य आज भी उतना ही असंतुष्ट, अंतर द्वन्दो और दुखो से भरा है जैसा वह सदा ही था.
लेकिन सत्य का साक्षात्कार बेहद ही आसान है, ऐसा की एक बच्चा भी समझ ले. क्योंकि सच्चाई ज्ञान में नहीं बल्कि प्रेम से भरे हृदय में है. सच्चाई बौद्धिक होने में नहीं बल्कि भावुक होने में है. यह सोचने या विचार करने में नहीं बल्कि महसूस करने में है. यह तर्क में नहीं बल्कि अपने को गहरे प्रेम और करुणा में डुबो देने में है.
