However, before he could help other passengers in saving their lives, two bullets hit him immobilizing him instantly. One bullet hit his shoulder and the other perforated his lungs. Minutes later, Sharma was trying to hold on to life. While the incident could have occurred between 9.30 pm and 10 p.m., no medical aid arrived till about 2.30 a.m. when the railways resumed their operations. At this time, his family members, who were frenetically calling his phone, finally heard a voice at the other end. However, it belonged to a police officer, informing them that the former had been severely injured in the incident. However, the family again got a call in the early hours of Thursday informing them about Sharma's death at Nair hospital where he was reportedly admitted after the incident.
