When in Goa, concerns over safety should, ideally, be the last thing on your mind. Which is why the state government has launched a special taxi service where women will act as drivers, guides, and if need be, even bodyguards.

The drivers
In October, the government flagged off the initiative with a fleet of 10 cars More will be added as demand scales. The drivers are trained in self-defence, soft skills, first aid and customer relations. They are also well versed with Goa’s tourist circuit and can comfortably show you around the place.

The drives
The air-conditioned taxis these women drive are kitted with a first-aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a GPS system, which the central control room uses to track the cabs, and a panic button to alert the control room in the odd case of an emergency.

The fare
The cabs come with electronic meters, which means no tedious haggling and no fear of getting gypped. At the end of your journey, you can pay by cash or card, and you will get a printout for your record.
