8th March 2026, the Self Help Groups (SHGs) under Khamdong Block celebrated the day with great enthusiasm and active participation. The programme was organized to recognize and appreciate the strength, resilience, and contributions of women in society, especially those associated with SHGs.

3rd week activities- National campaign for Gender equality, As part of the ongoing National Campaign for Gender Equality, Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission Khamdong block has successfully conducted Farmers mela. Farmers’ Mela under Naye Chetana Pahal on Gender Equality
A Farmers’ Mela under “Naye Chetana Pahal” (New Awareness Initiative), focusing on Gender Equality and Social Transformation. The programme was attended by officials and representatives from various line departments, including the Animal Husbandry Department and the Agriculture & Horticulture Department. The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among farmers, Self Help Group (SHG) members, youth, and the wider community on the importance of gender equality, women’s empowerment, shared responsibilities, and inclusive development. The mela emphasized that equitable participation of both men and women is essential for sustainable livelihoods and holistic rural development. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and community participation, the programme highlighted key themes such as:
- Equal opportunities for men and women in agriculture and livelihood activities
- Respect, dignity, and rights of women
- Elimination of discrimination and harmful social practices
- The role of gender-balanced households and communities in strengthening rural economies
The programme witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from SHG members, farmers, local representatives, and officials, reflecting strong community support and collective commitment towards building an equal, inclusive, and progressive society.
On the occasion, SRLM Khamdong reiterated its commitment to promoting gender-responsive development and empowering rural communities through continuous awareness initiatives, capacity-building programmes, and livelihood interventions. The Farmers’ Mela under Naye Chetana Pahal marked another meaningful step towards fostering social change and inclusive growth in Khamdong Block.
