Himalayan Grace Academy, Chisopani, South Sikkim observed World Environment Day with great enthusiasm, joining the global celebration of environmental awareness and conservation.
The programme began with a plantation drive and a campus cleanliness campaign. Students actively participated in the activities, while teachers extended their full support in promoting environmental responsibility through tree planting and cleanliness initiatives. Student planted a variety of saplings, contributing to the greenery of the campus and promoting biodiversity. Teachers encouraged students to reduce the use of plastic, save water and keep their surroundings clean and green.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and this year's theme, "Inspired by Nature: For Climate, For Our Future." He also emphasized the importance of observing the occasion to encourage environmental protection and sustainable practices. He emphasized that the only effective solution to combat global warming is to plant more trees and to cease the burning and use of plastics. This initiative not only beautifies the environment but also instills a sense of responsibility towards nature in the young minds, he added.
As part of the programme, Upahar Rai of Class IV recited an environmental slogan. This was followed by an informative speech by Jiya Rai of Class V, who highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and the collective responsibility of everyone to protect and preserve the environment before the assembled teachers and students.
Today's environment day programme concluded with sweet distribution among students and information inspiring everyone with a stronger sense of responsibility towards protecting the environment.

The State Election Department has announced Awards for the Best Performing DEOs, EROs, AEROs and BLOs under SIR 2026 – Phase III.
Based on the proposal of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim regarding institution of awards for outstanding performance during Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 – Phase III, the awards shall be presented during the National Voters' Day (NVD) 2027 celebration in recognition of exceptional efforts made by election officials in ensuring the successful conduct of the revision process and maintenance of an accurate electoral roll.
As per the information received from the Office of the CEO Sikkim, the proposed award categories are Best Performing Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Best Performing Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) – 1 from each District and Top 15 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) – State Level.
The criteria for the Best Performing EROs are accuracy in mapping of electors, maximum eligible voter registration, error-free updating of electoral rolls, timely disposal of claims and objections, effective supervision and coordination of BLOs and maintenance of quality records and reports.
Likewise the Best Performing AEROs, one from each district shall be selected based on their contribution to the successful implementation of SIR 2026 – Phase III. The award criteria will be assistance in accurate roll management, timely scrutiny and processing of applications, support in claims and objections disposal, coordination with BLOs and field officials and timely reporting and documentation.
In the third category i.e. the Top 15 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), fifteen BLOs from across the State shall be selected for exemplary field performance from which 2 BLOs will be selected by DEOs from each district and 3 BLOs will be selected by CEO, Office.
The selection criteria for the Top 15 BLOs will be timely Distribution and Collection of SIR Phase III Enumeration Forms, with zero loss or damage of documents and maximum mapping done during SIR 2026, Roll Accuracy with minimum errors in draft roll publication, maximum collection of Forms 6, 7, and 8, timely submission of field reports.
Furthermore, Proper Documentation of Entire SIR Phase III in the form of submission of video reels documenting door-to-door campaigns, BLO training sessions, form filling drives, claims and objections disposal meetings, and voter awareness events, Creation of short awareness videos on the theme "My India, My Vote" or "SIR 2026" (Judging parameters include message clarity on the SIR process, engagement factor, production quality, and social media reach) and demonstration of proactive voter awareness activities at booth level are the other criterion for the awards in Top 15 BLOs.
The Winners will be felicitated during the National Voters' Day 2027 function along with cash prizes and Certificates of Excellence.
Likewise, selected videos and awareness reels will be featured on the official social media platforms of the Election Department.
The initiative aims to recognize and encourage excellence, innovation, dedication and professionalism among election officials engaged in the conduct of SIR 2026.

CAEPHT, Ranipool conducts an awareness and farmer interaction programme under Khet Bachao Abhiyan-2026
As part of the ongoing ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan-2026’, an awareness and farmer interaction programme was organized today at Lingdum, East Sikkim, by the AICRP on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, College of Agricultural Engineering & Post Harvest Technology (CAEPHT), Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Ranipool, Gangtok.
The programme focused on safeguarding agricultural land through Sikkim’s organic and natural farming practices, promotion of soil health, efficient utilization of farm resources, and safe operation of agricultural machinery. Farmers from the locality actively participated in the event and interacted with scientists on sustainable farming practices suited to the hilly ecosystem of the State.
During the programme, demonstrations were conducted on the safe use of small farm machinery and on reducing farm accidents. Farmers were encouraged to adopt eco-friendly cultivation methods, conserve natural resources, and strengthen climate-resilient agriculture in line with Sikkim’s vision of maintaining its status as India’s leading organic farming State.
Addressing the gathering, the organizing team highlighted that protecting agricultural land is essential not only for food security but also for preserving the fragile mountain ecosystem of the Himalayan region. Emphasis was laid on natural resource conservation, soil health management, water conservation, and the adoption of appropriate farm technologies to enhance productivity without compromising environmental sustainability.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers, rural youth, and local stakeholders, who appreciated the initiative and expressed their commitment to preserving agricultural land and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
The programme was organized under the month-long ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan-2026’, being observed across the country from 1–30 June 2026, with the objective of creating awareness on the protection of agricultural land, sustainable farming, and natural resource conservation. It emphasized natural farming, soil and water conservation, and the safe use of agricultural machinery for sustainable hill agriculture. (PIB)
A Coordination Meeting on Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls for Gangtok Constituency cm Tablet Distribution Programme for the BLOs was held today at the Conference Hall of UDD, today. The programme chaired by Area MLA cm Advisor UDD Delay Namgyal Barfungpa also had the presence of Mayor GMC Tshering Palden Bhutia, Chairperson UDD Chung Chung Bhutia, Councilors of all the 4 Wards of 27- Gangtok Constituency, ADC Gangtok Sisum Bhutia, Gangtok CLC President Sanjeev Gurung and all the 12 BLOs deputed for SIR Exercise in the constituency.
MLA Barfungpa, in his address, emphasized the importance of technology-driven governance and the effective utilization of tablets for voter-related services and field-level activities. He also underlined the crucial role of BLOs in maintaining accurate electoral rolls and strengthening the democratic process. Referring to the non-co-operation by some voters during the exercise as mentioned by the BLOs during the interaction, the MLA appealed to the voters to extend co-operation to the BLOs in this very important exercise.
The programme concluded with handing over of tablets to the BLOs of all the four wards falling under 27- Gangtok constituency.
