AMPRG is very happy to share that our group member, Nishkarsh Srivastava, has successfully defended his PhD thesis and officially Dr. Nishkarsh Srivastava now! He is the 6th PhD graduate of the Advanced Materials Processing Research Group (AMPRG).
Nishkarsh joined AMPRG at IIT Gandhinagar as a PhD scholar in 2020 after completing his M.Tech with our group at IIT Gandhinagar. His doctoral research focused on Scanning Strategies for Tailoring Process–Structure–Property Relationship in Additive Manufacturing.
We congratulate both Dr. Nishkarsh and Prof. Amit Arora (Supervisor) on this excellent journey and achievement. Wishing him continued success in his future endeavors!

We are happy to welcome Dr. Suvranshu to the AMPRG team at IIT Gandhinagar as an ANRF- National Post-Doctoral Fellow (NPDF)! Dr. Suvranshu joined us after completing his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at NIT Rourkela, where his doctoral research in metal additive manufacturing was awarded the Gold Medal for Best Ph.D. Thesis.
With a background in manufacturing advanced high strength steels and orthopedic implants, he will now be focusing on solid state additive manufacturing specifically friction stir processing alongside the development of tuneable alloys and metal matrix composites tailored for specific applications.
Welcome aboard, Dr. Suvranshu! We are excited to see the innovative research and energy you will bring to the group.

We are happy to share our latest journal publication, "Nozzle clogging during extrusion based additive manufacturing of polymer matrix composites— A numerical simulation insight into the process”
Extrusion-based 3D printing of composite materials relies heavily on the complex multiphase flow within the nozzle to determine reinforcement directionality. To move beyond difficult experimental limitations, this study utilizes a coupled Computational Fluid Dynamics-Discrete Element Method (CFD-DEM) approach to deeply investigate how graphite reinforcements behave inside a Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) polymer matrix during the extrusion process.
By combining this CFD-DEM modeling with experimental data and non-linear regression analysis, this work quantifies the exact impact of drag, pressure gradient, and virtual mass forces on the final orientation angle of the reinforcements. We analyzed critical input parameters—including nozzle outlet diameter, reinforcement aspect ratio, volume flow rate, polymer viscosity, and reinforcement concentration to provide precise insights into particle alignment.
Notably, we tackled the persistent issue of nozzle clogging, proving through our model that nozzle rotation is a highly effective mechanism to not only mitigate jams but actively enhance the alignment process! These results offer a practical roadmap for optimizing high-performance composites with tailored properties
Congratulations to all the authors, and we look forward to more.
