Vivek Radhakrishnan is a multifaceted electronic music producer and composer,responsible for some of the most unique blends of different genres.Combining a world of different styles and ideas,his music is a fresh new approach to the experimental scene.Now on Blue Magic Records ©,Vivek brings out his new contributions to music through his V3K project and music collective ‘Inhabited Stars’.
The BMR © team had the opportunity to speak to him regarding his thoughts and processes,

BMR © - How did your journey into sound begin?
V3K - I used to listen to a wide variety of music from my father's cassette collections during childhood. I have always been interested in new types of music and fusion sounds. I had the opportunity to go for Carnatic vocal training from 3rd grade and various instruments like the guitar and Mridangam during later years of school. I Started playing with cassette tapes, mixing songs, making mashups for dance, theatre etc during my 6th grade. Things turned interesting when i started doing the same on softwares like adobe audition and cool edit pro. The turning point came in high school when i came across virtual dj and fruity loops, which turned my life over. I was very intrigued by electronic music genres and started making it in my own way. At that moment of time it was mostly trial and error, until I started making something close to what i had in mind.

BMR © - What were some influences that drove you to create a different approach?
V3K - Some of my earliest influences where a total contrast to each other. My roots go back to Indian carnatic music and folk sounds from rural India. I tried experimenting, mixing these styles of music with electronic music, to create something new. The sound has been evolving over the years, with the need to make each project better than the previous. As a DJ and music producer, my style has always been multigenred. I believe music should be able to travel beyond genres and languages.

BMR © - What are some of your favourite production techniques?
V3K - I normally start a track from any sound or inspiration or melody, there is no particular method of production as such. Sometimes i make a beat and build the melody on top of it or the other way around. One of my favourite production techniques would be sampling and creative processing of sound. It could be an instrument sample or a recording of an old folk tune. I would break down the sample and reconstruct a new melody out it. Something i also like to do is use real acoustic sounds or real life recordings as samples for beats. Synthesis and layering techniques help me create some of my moving basses and atmospheres.

BMR © - How did you go about developing your signature sound?
V3K - My sound has been evolving over the years, and i don’t think it’s going to settle anytime soon. Music will be a journey for me and it will reflect my personal influences, family, friends and nature. Currently my sound has two sides, a dance music side and a chill out side. The common factor in both is the presence of bass music elements. I like locking people down on a groove, even if its chill out music.

BMR © - what made you choose BMR © as a platform ?
V3K - Blue Magic Records © has given me a great platform to release the chill out side of my music. We currently have an amazing line up of artists releasing through BMR. This is a very positive step for promoting some really great chill out and ambient music in India and all over the globe. Aastik Koshy and his team have taken tremendous effort in building this label and the outcome has been incredible. BMR is your one stop shop for all your chill out moments!

BMR © - What are some of your future projects we can look forward to?
V3K - I will be releasing an EP Called "1010B and the broken laptop" a compilation of three multi-genre dance music tracks by October 2017. I am also looking forward to release a full album through Blue Magic Records © in the coming months and currently working on the tracks for the album.

BMR © - What are your thoughts on the current state of electronic music in india?
V3K - There is a lot of opportunity in India's Electronic music Scene and i think it is really booming. Most festivals and clubs are currently promoting commercial or popular electronic music but there is a big opportunity for underground genres and artists to flourish. Electronic music producers and artists are getting popular and the space for independent music is here. I am looking forward to play more live events and festivals where i can play my amalgamated sounds and reach more listeners in worldwide.

BMR © - how can one approach music as an Ideaology?
V3K - Music is something that travels beyond languages and borders. I believe in making music to uplift the listeners and give them a positive vibe. Music has the ability to connect with your listener in an emotional level and my intention is to give them a good thrilling experience which keeps them motivated to do good and be good to the universe.
