Day care facility: A right step for career oriented women!
For women who want to make their career and want to grow but stuck after child birth now can switch back to their work. The women and child development (WCD) ministry’s which is headed by Maneka Gandhi recommendation that every company hiring women should also provide a daycare facility. She has written to the corporate affairs ministry to advise and build consensus with all companies and corporate entities to offer creche facilities in view of the rising number of women joining the workforce across sectors.
With this step of her there is a mixed reactions Indian companies. Some HR experts have given this recommendation a nod of approval, saying a legal mandate to have onsite daycare is a compelling measure. If organization start providing daycare facilities for working mothers at their workplace then women will no more need to take a break from their career due to motherhood and post-maternity childcare and will be able to concentrate on their work which simultaneously help in the growth of the organization.
It is seen that sapling in its Bangalore office has launch the childcare facility and the company has reduced attrition on account of maternity to 4% in 2015 from 40% in 2010. Many organization mentions that this step is an encouraging move and creates an equal opportunity at the workplace. Although there are many organization that are not very positive about this idea; according to them its neither logical nor effective .As Some firms may not have a very large number of women employees, and some may have space constraints so there idea of opening a daycare facility is just not good. Many time employees travel long distances to their workplaces, and may not want to put their children through the stress of daily travel. Thus for such employees companies should be allowed to explore different options maybe external tie-ups for their employees convenience.
Detecting disease becomes more easy & faster!
Now detecting diseases like diabetes, infections, and cancer will becomes faster & convenient. Researchers are developing a laser system for a non-invasive, on-site breath analysis that can screen various diseases in a moment. The team has developed an instrument like an "optical dog's nose" that uses a special laser to measure the molecular content of a sample of gas, which can hit the market in three-five years. According to the researcher the laser system uses light to 'sense' the range of molecules that are present in the sample and those molecules are by-products of metabolic processes in the body and their levels change when things go wrong. Through this we can even detect disease like lung and oesophageal cancer, asthma and diabetes before external symptoms are shown.
The system uses a specialized laser that sends up to a million different light frequencies through the sample and each molecule absorbs light at different optical frequencies and, therefore, has a unique molecular fingerprint. As per researchers study the next step is to work out how to accurately sample and interpret the levels which will naturally vary from person to person
World’s smallest thermometer from DNA STRINGS!
Now, it’s easy & convenient to take temperature in hard-to-reach spot; all thanks to the team of researchers who has created the world's smallest thermometer from DNA.The University of Montreal researchers created a programmable DNA thermometer that is 20,000x smaller than a human hair. This scientific research may help us to understand natural and human designed nanotechnologies by enabling to measure temperature at the nanoscale. If we look in the past; 60 years ago researchers discovered that the DNA molecules that encode our genetic information can unfold when heated. In recent years, biochemists also discovered that biomolecules such as proteins or RNA (a molecule similar to DNA) are employed as nanothermometers in living organisms and report temperature variation by folding or unfolding.
This research is inspired by those natural nanothermometers, which are typically 20,000x smaller than a human hair, and we created various DNA structures that can fold and unfold at specifically defined temperatures. The advantage of using DNA to engineer molecular thermometers is that DNA chemistry is relatively simple and programmable. DNA is made from four different monomer molecules called nucleotides: nucleotide A binds weakly to nucleotide T, whereas nucleotide C binds strongly to nucleotide G and by using these simple design rules we are able to create DNA structures that fold and unfold at a specifically desired temperature. Finally, By adding optical reporters to these DNA structures, we can therefore create 5 nm-wide thermometers that produce an easily detectable signal as a function of temperature.
