Did you know?

If a woman has fewer than eight menstrual periods a year on a chronic basis, she probably has a 50-80% chance of having PCOS based on that single observation.

But if she has infrequent menstruation and she has elevated androgen levels such as testosterone in the blood, then she has a greater than 90% chance of having the condition.

What does your period blood colour indicate?

🖤 Black - Typically indicates the beginning or end of your period, or it may be due to a va**nal blockage. However, if accompanied by smelly discharge, itching, or difficulty urinating, it could indicate a problem. If these symptoms are absent, it is likely just older blood that has not yet been expelled.

🤎 Dark red or brown - While brown or dark red period blood can be an early sign of pregnancy (referred to as "implantation bleeding"), it is also common at the start or end of your period. It is important to distinguish between the two situations.

❤️ Bright red - Bright red period blood usually indicates that it is relatively fresh and indicates a steady flow. In rare cases, bright red period flow may be a sign of cervical cancer, but this would be accompanied by other symptoms such as heavier periods, smelly va**nal discharge, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

🧡 Orange - Usually indicates a combination of period blood and cervical fluid, but it may also suggest a possible infection.

💗 Pink - Pink period blood may occur just before the onset or as it is ending, typically due to a mixture of period blood and cervical fluid. It can also be caused by factors like weight loss, an unhealthy diet, or an underlying condition such as anemia. If you are on contraceptive pills, it could also explain a pink period.

🩶 Grey - Grey period blood is usually a sign of bacterial vaginosis, which occurs when there is an imbalance in the bacteria in the va**na.

‼️NOTE: It's important to note that the color of period blood can vary throughout your menstrual cycle or from one period to another. These color changes are generally considered normal and nothing to worry about, except if your flow is grey, orange, or has an unpleasant odor - in such cases, it is advisable to seek help!
