ion Technology, Government of India was set-up in 1991, with an objective of promoting the Software Exports from the country and has played a seminal role in this regard. Starting with a few centres in 1991, STPI has grown all over the country with 71 centres. STPI has had a nucleating effect on the growth of software exports from these locations. Administration/Implementation of STP/EHTP schemes through STPI centres has generated employment and entrepreneurial opportunities across the country. STPI is working closely with State Governments/local authorities for creation of more space equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities for the promotion of start-ups & also for the dispersal of the IT/ITES industry to Tier II/ Tier III cities. During the last two decades, STPI has accomplished remarkable achievements in establishing India into global IT map as a world leader. Objectives:
The objectives of the Software Technology Parks of India are:
(a) To promote the development and export of software and software services including ITES/Bio-IT. (b) To provide statutory and other promotional services to the exporters by implementing Software Technology Park (STP)/ Electronics Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) schemes and such other schemes which may be formulated and entrusted by the Government from time to time. (c) To provide data communication services including value added services to IT / ITES related industries. (d) To promote micro, small and medium entrepreneurs by creating conducive environment for entrepreneurship in the field of IT/ITES.
