He started at the age of 16 when his father brought home a book about Krishna.At first his 'henna' consisted of magic markers. But eventually with a little help, he figured it out. During his teenage years he abandoned the art form almost completely. Boys and fun seemed more important and other artistic endeavors caught his attention.
