BABY BORIS FEEDING IN THE GARDEN WITH PARENTS

“The observing of the herring gull family at close range has been enthralling. I have got to understand the variety of language they use to communicate with each other, to call to their baby, to speak with other herring gulls and also with me (I am sure that thank you for food is a part of it). The male and female are subtly different in size, shape and markings. The baby until today made a constant peeping sound which seemed to be coming (voice projection?) from elsewhere. Herring gulls are now on the red list as an endangered species and we feed them daily.” (Female, 68 yrs, UK)

This is one of the submissions for a photography project for older adults, “Today Matters – One Click at a Time”, initiated by Dr. Sumita Chauhan. The use of mobile technology proves particularly advantageous, as it allows for spontaneous shots without the need for elaborate equipment. Focusing on the intriguing interactions with a family of seagulls that frequented her residence and framing herring gull family within her home context, she created a personal narrative that captured candid moments of the birds.

“Today Matters – One Click at a Time” is a photography project for older adults initiated by Dr. Sumita Chauhan. This project highlighting the lives of elderly individuals has brought forth some truly inspiring submissions. Using a mobile phone camera, this participant managed to capture an unconventional composition. Sometimes a casually taken photo can reveal a lot about a particular time in a person’s life.
