Between 2019 and 2024, around 6,900+ government schools were closed or merged.
The main reasons include school mergers, low student enrollment, and administrative restructuring.

2) Odisha

Odisha ranks second in terms of government school closures.
During the same period, about 4,500+ government schools were closed or merged.
This was mainly due to rationalisation of schools, declining student numbers, and policy decisions.
