Do's and Don'ts of resumes to keep in mind

DO'S:-

>> As a minimum, include your name, phone number, email address, and the current location of residence.
>> Consider including social media profiles that are relevant to the position, such as a detailed LinkedIn profile. Other profiles like Twitter, Medium and Instagram, may be valuable for certain roles.
>> Include a professional headshot if you are applying for a job in Continental Europe, Asia, South America, Africa or the Middle East.

DON'TS:-

>> Use an unprofessional email address, like [email protected]. Create a separate professional email if you don’t already have one.
>> Include personal information, such as marital status, nationality or religious affiliation.
>> Include a professional headshot if you are applying for a job in the United Kingdom or North America.

Tips to Build Your Resume:

Before delving into writing a resume, ask yourself some basic questions that will shape your direction.

* Are you seeking an entry-level job?
* Changing careers?
* Are you re-entering the workforce after a lengthy time off?
* Do you need to refresh and update your current resume?

The first step to writing an eye-catching resume is determining what you're trying to accomplish. While you might not include an "Objective" section on your resume, write one just for yourself to serve as a guiding principle for your overall resume.

Reverse Chronological Format:-

* Contact Information – The most consistent element across all three resume formats, contact details must be outlined near the top.
* Career Objective – The resume introduction can be used by anyone, and allows job-seekers to tailor their resume to their employer.
* Work Experience – For this format, you must have a consistent work history (or one that isn’t too patchy).
* Additional Skills – Your skills section can still be used to highlight personal attributes you’re proud of.
* Education – Your degrees (any) and certifications (if relevant) should be highlighted.
* Awards & Honors – Be sure to mention your most impressive example/s.

Generally a resume gets scanned for 25 seconds. Scanning is more difficult if it is hard to read, poorly organized or exceeds two pages.

>> Use a logical format and wide margins, clean type and clear headings.

>> Selectively apply bold and italic typeface that help guide the reader's eye.

>> Use bullets to call attention to important points (i.e. accomplishments)
