Common Mistakes in Japanese- Part 1
"Sumimasen" vs. "Gomen nasai" Many learners use "sumimasen" and "gomen nasai" interchangeably to mean "I'm sorry". However, "sumimasen" is a more polite and general way of apologizing, while "gomen nasai" is a more sincere and specific way of apologizing. Use "sumimasen" for small mistakes and inconveniences, and "gomen nasai" for more serious mistakes
