VHS - DIVA Project

plays a vital role working on the health and human rights issues of Transgender and Hijra people through capacity building, policy advocacy and research initiatives. The Goal of the project is to reduce the impact of HIV on Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) and TG/Hijra people in South Asia. The Objectives of the project are: (i) to improve the delivery of HIV prevention, care and treatment services for TG/Hijra people, (ii) to improve the policy environment for TG/Hijra people and HIV related issues and (iii) to improve strategic knowledge about the impact of HIV on TG/Hijra people. In line with the goals and objectives of the project VHS works on the 3 Key Focus Areas;
1. Institutional Strengthening and Community Capacity Building to Improve the HIV and Health Status
2. Policy Advocacy and Partnership Building to Create the Enabling and Sustainable Environment
3. Operational Research and Strategic Information to Generate Evidence for Policy Reforms and Programme Improvement

The VHS-DIVA project is working in partnerships with NACO, and respective SACS, above all in close association with the Transgender and Hijra, led Community Based Organisations. The project is a catalyst in providing Technical Assistance to 34 CBOs, capacitated 1700 individual and nurtured the welfare boards. The project is investing all its efforts to improve the quality of lives of Transgender and Hijra people.
