Today marks the birth anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai, an Indian physicist and astronomer who is widely recognized as the Father of the Indian Space Programme due to his numerous accomplishments in the field. Born on August 12, 1919, Dr Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai is best known for founding ISRO and contributing to the establishment of major institutions in India, such as the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. In 1962, he established the National Committee for Space Research, which later became the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).Sadly, Dr. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai passed away on December 30, 1971, the same day he was supposed to review the SLV design before his departure from Bombay. His contributions to the space industry and his visionary leadership continue to inspire and influence the space revolution today.
