Empoise

Empoise collaborated with Resolve Digital Health from Canada to develop a line of intelligent cannabis solutions that cater to patients prescribed with medical cannabis. These devices are essentially vaporizers that utilize technology to ensure verification of genuine patients, consistent dosing and provide a professional experience, empowering patients to take control of their healthcare. The devices use pre-filled proprietary pods containing selected cannabis formulations from licensed producers, which can be easily verified and used with the device. The accompanying app captures data on medical conditions, prescriptions, lifestyle, and effectiveness per dose, utilizing these data points to improve the medical cannabis treatment experience for patients and caregivers.

In 2019, Resolve received the first-ever cannabis-related medical device license issued under Health Canada's new regulatory system. Empoise was responsible for the industrial design, electromechanical design and integration, thermal design and optimization, pre-fill consumables design, and project management for the pilot products. This included finding electronics and software partners, app developers, vendor management for prototype and pilot production, and more.

This smart vaporizer is the first and most comprehensive device in the product family, featuring a built-in display, NFC-enabled smart pods, and a charging dock. Empoise generated several patentable ideas during the design process and successfully delivered fully working prototypes.
