As we are all aware, the pandemic has catalysed the adoption of technology by the Real Estate industry the world over. As cost of technology continually reduces and as the ecosystem gradually but surely transforms digitally, it is becoming increasingly evident that has a critical role to play in the world of affordable housing as well as housing for low-income families.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana envisages building 20 million urban units by 2022. Adoption by large Real Estate players has been low due to points of friction such as low profit margins and poor land & property documentation. From a consumer perspective, predictable access to affordable loans remains a challenge.

A lot of these challenges are being addressed by technology and we are enthused to see many startups rise up to these challenges. Whether it is alternate building material that is sustainable and more economical, design and project management software that is affordable or leveraging technology for making affordable loans accessible to everyone, is already proving to be a game changer even for mass, public housing.
