We recently completed the spatial mapping of renovated villas and facilities at the Radisson Blu Resort in Phu Quoc. Documenting an active 5-star property requires precise scheduling to ensure guest privacy and clean data.

For this project, we operated in a tight pre-dawn window to capture high-traffic areas like the public pools and exterior pathways before the morning rush. The technical brief also covers our hardware choice—the Matterport Pro2—to maintain brand compliance, and why we avoid third-party overlays to keep tour loading times fast for mobile users.

Field Report: 3D Spatial Documentation in Heavy Manufacturing

Scanning a heavy manufacturing facility is fundamentally different from commercial real estate work. We’ve compiled our technical notes from recent documentation projects at JK Tyre plants in Gwalior and Chennai.

The report details the process of mapping active industrial environments, navigating around moving machinery like Tyre Building Machines (TBM), and managing equipment performance in high-thermal zones near vulcanization. These 3D models serve as a spatial baseline for remote facility management and IoT integration.

The Anatomy of a Tyre: 3D Scanning in Heavy Manufacturing A technical documentation of the spatial digitisation process within heavy radial tyre manufacturing facilities, covering platform constraints, thermal environments, and post-production workflows.

The inevitable Chennai for industrial scanning:

Adostrophe is on-site at JK Tyre, digitizing one of India’s premier manufacturing hubs. While our Matterport scanner captures the facility’s layout, the machines in the frame are performing the heavy lifting of tire production.

The Extruder: Precision Shaping -

The 250mm TBR (Truck & Bus Radial) Extruder (seen in the first image) is the starting point. It functions like a high-powered industrial press, utilizing a massive internal screw to heat and soften raw rubber compounds. This softened rubber is forced through a precision die to create continuous, contoured strips. This process determines the “profile” of the tire—shaping the very tread and sidewalls that eventually meet the road.

The Curing Press: The Final Transformation -

The second image captures the central aisle of Curing Presses. This is where a “Green Tire”—a smooth, uncured rubber cylinder—undergoes its final metamorphosis.
Inside these presses, high-pressure steam inflates an internal bladder, pushing the soft rubber against a metal mold. At temperatures near 170°C, a chemical reaction called vulcanization occurs. This “bakes” the rubber, permanently bonding its molecules to transform it from a pliable material into a durable, elastic tire stamped with its final tread pattern.

The experience -

In an environment of massive industrial scale, our rotating scanner drew plenty of attention. Technicians frequently stopped to ask about the device’s purpose. Upon learning it was creating a millimeter-accurate “Digital Twin” of their plant, the questions shifted from technical curiosity to a lighter note: “Can it take our photo too?” In a world of high-tech automation, human curiosity remains the driving force behind the innovation.
