Nestled on the eastern banks of the Hooghly River, the Dakshineswar Kali Temple is one of the most iconic spiritual landmarks of Kolkata. Built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni, a philanthropist and devotee of Goddess Kali, this grand temple is dedicated to Bhavatarini Kali, the form of the Goddess believed to liberate devotees from the cycle of birth and death.

✨ History & Significance

The temple's Nava-ratna style architecture (nine spires) is a stunning example of Bengal temple design.
It gained immense spiritual importance due to its association with Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, who served here as head priest and had deep mystical experiences in the temple.
The complex also houses 12 Shiva shrines along the river and a temple dedicated to Radha-Krishna.
