Canada has updated its Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility criteria. 🎓

(For applications from Nov 1 onward)

To qualify, your study program must fall within certain high-demand fields:

Healthcare 🏥,
Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) 📊,
Trade ⚙️,
Transport 🚛.

Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada, announced big updates for international students.

🔴The Canadian government has set a target for study permits issued of 437,000 in each of 2025 and 2026. This represents a 10% reduction from 2024.

🔴Master’s and PhD students will be included in the 2025 and 2026 caps and will need to submit a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) as part of their study permit application

🔴Degree graduates will remain eligible for a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) of up to three years. International students approved for a study permit after 1 October 2024 – if they graduate from college programmes – will no longer be eligible for a PGWP unless their programme is linked to an area of high labour market demand.

🔴PGWP eligibility rules are set to change in the coming months. As part of changes to the PGWP Program, all applicants will be required to demonstrate a minimum language proficiency in French or English.

🔴Work permits for spouses of master’s students will be limited to only those whose spouse’s program is at least 16 months long.
