The story behind "jagannath Ashtakam" is that Adi Shankaracharya composed Shri Jagannath Ashtakam when he visited Jagnnath temple in Puri. He dedicated these verses in the feet of Lord of the universe – Lord Jagannath. In these verses he described about Lord’s enchanting beauty, his pastimes and virtues that he wants to hold in eyes forever. He beautifully painted Rath Yatra description in the asktakam which mesmerize whoever reads and listen it. Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu recited these hymns on his visit to Puri.

Whoever reads and listen this verses with utmost faith, Lord Jagannath blesses him.Reciting these verses with full devotion brings joy and detachment from materials pleasures and One becomes pure hearted.
