Minister Shukla Charan Noatia on Thursday raised the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill issue at the one day assembly session only to be interrupted by speaker Rampada Jamatia.

In a speech of over nine minutes, Noatia supported the Women's Reservation Bill but later digressed to the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill delay. He informed the house that a resolution was passed by the state cabinet then to support its passage in parliament.

“After the BJP-IPFT came to power in 2018, we agreed to support the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill introduced by the NDA government in 2019 in Rajya Sabha. It was to upgrade the TTAADC to Tipra Terretorial Council (TTC). However, there is a considerable delay now,” Minister Noatia added.

The 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill was not passed and was referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs for further discussion and improvement. The Bill aimed to increase financial and executive powers of the Autonomous District Council under the sixth schedule of the Indian constitution.

Municipal council, anti-defection law, more Governor's role, and direct funding were expected to be the outcome if the amendment is passed.
