Ulpan La-Inyan
Stacey you're the best!
After 2 months begging my pension office to call back in English, I finally got the call — in Hebrew, again.
When I asked about English, the agent casually informed me, “Nobody here speaks English.”
Normally? I would’ve hung up. But this was a dayenu-or-don’t moment. So I took the call. *GULP*
Was it smooth? Nope.
Did I understand everything? Also no.
Did I get creative? Yes!
I got out of my head and into the conversation. And it just worked, because this is the kind of Hebrew that matters: real, adult-life Hebrew. I’m not even in the same zipcode as fluent Hebrew, but that’s not the goal. The goal is to feel braver and more willing to show up for conversations in Hebrew.
So, if you’ve been telling yourself you’ll take the call in Hebrew someday, this is your sign to take the call now. I’m taking 1:1 lessons with .lainyan, and if you want to build your vocabulary alongside your confidence, take this as a sign!
Hebrew confidence … loading!
The most powerful thing for me right now in .lainyan is that I’m learning Hebrew through real conversation — back and forths, in real time, repeating the phrases I actually need in everyday life.
Not textbook Hebrew — I already did that — but the kind I need at the park, at school events, and at the grocery store.
There was a verb today I didn’t know at all, but instead of freezing, we built it, repeated it, and used it again and again.
By the time I finished my coffee, it wasn’t foreign anymore — it was usable.
And that’s the difference!
When the language you practice is the language you actually live in, confidence starts to grow. לאט לאט!
