Back in 1914, when Jaffa’s port was crowded with merchants, there was a small house from which wafted a special aroma. There, a man would roast and blend coffee beans, while his admiring daughter sat at his side, proudly and attentively watching him at work. Merchants passing through would come to the man’s house to drink his coffee, and tell stories. The merchants began to call the daughter Basma
