Here is some positive news. I have had this running now off and on for the last fortnight. Not much has been happening, just in and out. But in my garden gas shed, I have a Robin nest and she's just started laying. So it'll be interesting for the next 6 weeks. You can go to YouTube then search "robin nest Palace fields". The female Robin comes into the nest early in the morning, from 6:30 on. I will be live streaming every day from then if you really want to see it. She lays her egg, obviously, it takes a while. She should lay again Monday and Tuesday. She might lay on Wednesday and Thursday, six is generally the maximum number and four the minimum. While the eggs are laid, they are in a dormant state. It’s as if they have not yet been “born”. So if you live stream the nest during the day, you’re unlikely to see any activity. It happened this morning, and that’s it until the next day. When she has laid her full clutch of eggs, she will then move to the incubation stage. This is also when the nest starts becoming busy and the dormant eggs come to life. The robins, because I think the male robin will share some of the incubation duties while the female takes toilet breaks for example. He will also bring the female food. Incubation takes around 10 – 14 days. If the robin discovers any infertile eggs in the nest they will be removed. The more you learn about this, the more fascinating it becomes.
