I regularly share this poem with clients and groups, and I found it especially powerful when I was going through my own wobble before taking the leap into self-employment.

It can be so challenging when things don’t seem to be going our way. However, continuing to keep the big picture in mind, trusting that things will work out while also being kind and compassionate with ourselves through the difficult phases is a form of resilience.

If you’re going through a tough time right now, remember that this too will pass, and be gentle with yourself ♥️

Anxiety and control often go hand in hand. When we feel anxious, it’s very human to try to manage that feeling by staying one step ahead, by pre-empting, preventing, and trying to control everything around us, from our environment to other people’s behaviour.

The difficulty is that much of this control is an illusion. The past few years have reminded us just how much is outside our control.

Letting go of what isn’t ours to control can feel scary at first, but it can also be deeply freeing. Trying to avoid anxiety at all costs often takes far more energy than allowing the feeling, meeting it with self-compassion, and focusing on what is within our influence.

A circle of control can be a helpful pause point:
🫧 Inside: Our choices, boundaries, rest, self-care, and how we respond

🫧 Outside: The behaviour of others, the weather, outcomes and decisions that aren’t ours

Sometimes peace begins with gently loosening our grip.
