Rediscovering Margit Wagner
The IFI Irish Film Institute is pleased to present a selection of films made in Ireland by German filmmaker Margit Wagner between 1959 and 1975. This programme of films, curated with Prof Gisela Holfter of University of Limerick, has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Culture Ireland.
This special screening event, marking Limerick’s official pairing with Germany for the Irish EU Presidency 2026, begins with an introduction to Margit Wagner featuring extracts and a discussion with Prof. Albrecht Wagner (son of Margit Wagner), followed by a programme of her films: Abenteuer des Helfens (The Adventure of Helping) and Auf die Flut warten (Waiting for the Tide).
The evening continues with excerpts from Irland – Lieder für Träumer, Musik für Rebellen (Songs for Dreamers, Music for Rebels) and a full screening of Mr Garech’s Koch (Mr Garech’s Cook), offering a rich portrait of social, cultural, and artistic life across Ireland and Germany.

Day Magee is an artist, performer, and writer based in Dublin. Their practice centres the body in time and space, interrogating the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and enact, encompassing religiosity, psychonarrative, and illness. This manifests in oratory performances posed as speculative speech acts, along with texts, installations, workshops and artefacts across multimedia.
Their work has been commissioned by/appeared in: Project Arts Centre (2026); Luan Gallery (2026); Trouble Festival, Brussels (2025); the Hugh Lane Gallery (2023); Rua Red (2023); Pallas Projects/Studios (2022); and TULCA Festival (2019). Their interdisciplinary practice is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.
Day has been collaborating on the sound for their performance with local artist mankyy
Limerick drag clown performer Whimsy who has been performing over a year, combines “silly with seductive”. Whimsy has appeared in a number of competitions and shows, including The Outing and Electric Picnic.
Alex Vostokova is a dance artist, choreographer and director working across live performance, improvisation and film as well as teaching and facilitating in Ireland. Alex explores how our environment impacts identity, with a focus on socio-cultural issues, surrealism, and the intersection of dance with other mediums. Her work invites curiosity about dance as a resilient artform as well as movement that isn’t ‘perfect’ but rather emphasises the fact that it is such a communal practice.
Pit is about public space and the social, psychological, and ecological effects of modern urbanism. Set in an unspecified metropolis where concrete has purged all natural life, one defiant w**d persists. The work blurs the lines between its fictional world and the reality of contemporary life, provoking audiences to reflect on the relationship between performance, power and pedestrian.
Commissioned by CoisCéim Dance Theatre as part of BENCH, a collection of short, original dance works curated by David Bolger highlightin
