A fantastic session today as we welcomed back one of our former Student to deliver a practical introduction to Velocity Based Training (VBT) with our current students.

VBT is an evidence-based approach to strength and conditioning that uses movement speed to prescribe and monitor training intensity in real time. It helps coaches and athletes optimise performance, manage fatigue, track progress objectively, and make more informed training decisions. It's a method increasingly used in elite sport and high-performance environments.

Providing our students with opportunities to learn directly from experienced professionals and alumni who are working in the industry is something we take great pride in. Sessions like these bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, giving students exposure to the latest coaching methods and technologies.

This is the kind of hands-on, industry-led experience that simply isn't available on a typical 16-week course. Our commitment is to develop knowledgeable, confident practitioners by giving them access to practical experiences that prepare them for the demands of the profession.

A huge thank you to our former Student Dean for returning to share their expertise and inspire the next generation of coaches. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

Why learning how to breathe & brace matters in weightlifting 🏋️‍♂️

Most people focus on reps, weight, and form—but forget the thing that holds it all together: your breath.

Here’s why it matters 👇

🔹 Protects your spine
Proper bracing creates internal pressure that stabilizes your core—like a natural weight belt. Less stress on your lower back, more control under load.

🔹 Increases strength instantly
When you brace correctly, your body becomes more solid. That means better force transfer → heavier lifts, safer reps.

🔹 Improves technique
Loose core = energy leaks. Bracing keeps your body tight so you move efficiently, especially in squats, deadlifts, and presses.

🔹 Reduces injury risk
Bad breathing = collapsing under weight. Good breathing = control, stability, and longevity in training.

💡 Simple cue:
“Breathe into your belly, lock it in, then move.”

Master this and everything else—strength, stability, confidence—levels up.
