Congratulations to our NIPC leadership team who presented at the ESC ACNAP conference in the Heart House, Nice over the weekend.
Dr Irene Gibson, Head of Clinical Innovation presented at the joint session with the Global Heart Hub “From inequality to inclusion: patient-centered cardiovascular care across conditions”. Her session focused on nurses and allied professionals as advocates for reducing inequalities. She highlighted their unique position to advocate at a patient, organisation and health system level, calling out the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in research.
Dr susan connolly, Director of Clinical Innovation presented at the joint session with the Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing of the American Heart Association “Chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease, risk assessment and reduction in the multimorbid patient”. She highlighted the interplay between renal and cardiac health and implications for disease progression and outcomes. She emphasised the importance of multidisciplinary approaches to optimising care, sharing examples from her work in the HSE chronic disease management hub in Galway.
Prof Jennifer (Jenni) Jones, Director of Education and Training presented at the joint session with the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation “From prescription to performance: tailoring exercise and motivational skills for optimal outcomes”. She highlighted behaviour change strategies that help cardiac patients stay active. She called on all professionals to reflect on how they engage with patients to address barriers to exercise and how the need for formal training in supporting health behaviour change should be core to all medical, nursing and allied healthcare professions.
