Last week Dexcom Stadium had the honour of hosting Team Connaught ahead of the upcoming 2026 Ireland Summer Games. 120 athletes plus hundreds of family, friends, supporters and volunteers came together on the Atlantic Premium Level for the first time.

Everyone at Connacht Rugby is saddened to learn of the passing of former IrishRugby CEO Philip Browne earlier this week.

Philip worked in the IRFU for almost 30 years, and served as Chief Executive from 1998 until his retirement in 2021.

Connacht Rugby CEO Willie Ruane has paid the following tribute:

“Philip Browne’s impact in Irish rugby is clear for all to see. He guided our sport through the early days of the professional era and helped lay the foundations that ultimately led to sustained growth and success across all 4 provinces and at international level. A widely respected and trusted leader, he also leaves a proud legacy with his work at World Rugby, and the key role he played in the development of Aviva Stadium.

On a personal level Philip was a great support to me, as I started out in my current role, and on behalf of myself and everyone at Connacht Rugby I’d like to express our sincerest condolences to Philip’s family and friends, and his wide circle of colleagues in the IRFU and across Irish rugby.”
