The release of the 1926 Census on 18 April 2026 marks a landmark moment in Irish history, bringing the earliest demographic record of the Irish Free State into public hands for the first time.
Free to access and fully searchable through the National Archives of Ireland’s new online platform, the census offers over 700,000 digitised household returns, rich with detail on language, occupations, family life, and more.
Their free online Q&A clinics give you the opportunity to explore the census with expert guidance from National Archives staff. Each one hour session includes a short presentation on how to search and navigate the census, followed by an open Q&A where our team will be on hand to answer your questions and help you get the most from this extraordinary resource.

Last night marked the third instalment of Wexford Reads Festival with the visit of bestselling Wexford author Carmel Harrington to Enniscorthy Library. 📚✨
Carmel captivated the room with discussions about her latest novel “The Nowhere Girls,” her creative writing process and her life as an author. Huge thank you to Carmel for coming in to visit us here at Enniscorthy Library!
We’d also like to say a huge thank you to our colleague Jan Doran from Gorey Library for a hugely enjoyable interview with Carmel.
Jan will be back interviewing in September at Bunclody Library for the next Wexford Reads Festival event with Shauna Lawless.
You can book here: https://wexfordcoco.libcal.com/event/4533772
There will also be interviews with Paul Howard in Wexford Library and Claire Keegan in Gorey Library later in the year. Keep an eye on our socials for more information.
Finally, thank you to all who attended last night - despite the weather, we had such an engaged crowd with fantastic questions which led to some really great discussions with Carmel!
