When does a blogger have to declare content as gifted or an ad?
The ASAI (Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland) says that:
✨ Where an advertiser makes a payment (directly or in-kind) to the reviewer/blogger
✨ Where the advertiser has control over the content that is created (ie there is an obligation to create content with direction from a brand owner)
Then the content is considered advertising/marketing communication and MUST be clearly and openly declared (and this goes for any platform, not just Insta 😇 )
So whether you are receiving a free overnight stay in a hotel, are paid to talk about the launch of a new service, or are sent a lovely gift by a brand, it is your responsibility as the content creator to show clearly that is an advertisement 🙌
For more on this, check out our IGTV channel where there is a really informative interview with the head of the ASAI 😊
