It’s abhorrent that young people are being exposed to this and having their childhood and youth so marked and damaged. Social media companies and the p**n industry are allowed groom children and young people into accepting and normalising this. And then women, girls and LGBTQ people endure the consequences.
The government’s new education syllabus means school students, particularly secondary school students need a computer, or access to a computer. This is an additional barrier to education for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, some of whom I have taught myself in West Tallaght during the pandemic. It cannot be left up to individual schools to shoulder the cost — the government needs to provide the resources necessary for the education syllabus so every single student gets a fair chance.
