Storm Bram didn’t stop a groundbreaking event at CHQ last night as Uachtarán na hÉireann Catherine Connolly attended the launch of a new comprehensive monolingual Irish-Irish dictionary.
Until now, understanding unfamiliar Irish words meant relying on Irish-English dictionaries. An Foclóir Nua Gaeilge by Foras na Gaeilge finally puts Irish on the same level as other modern languages, with An tUachtarán calling it “an essential resource in any living language.”
We were delighted to offer a warm fáilte to our new President for such a monumental occasion. A huge bualadh bos to Foras na Geilege for this important step forward in their vision to embed the Irish language into all aspects of life in Ireland, and go raibh maith agat to everyone who joined us.
