Garrett comes from a strong rugby background and after seeing the game being played while he was in the United States, was adamant that Ireland would have their own Wheelchair Rugby Team. Ireland have been competing in Wheelchair Rugby at an International Level since the late 1990's, attending their first European Championships in 2003. Ireland are currently ranked 10th in Europe and are working hard to develop the sport with a view to qualifying for World Championships and Paralympics Games.
