How Human Of Me

Catching up on Christmas emails and came across this lovely article on getting over the Christmas slump which some of us may still be getting through now (including myself 😅). I'll be doing another yoga retreat in Powerscourt in Enniskerry at the end of January so if you need a bit of TLC there are still spaces.
Have a read of this article for some other recommendations and keep healthy x
The Great Escape: 10 Ways To Navigate The Twixmas Slump - The Gloss Magazine It’s that in-between time. Here’s how we’re getting through the dog days of December … We don’t mean to be grumpy. For some, this is the full-tilt “party season”. But we don’t all have the stamina. And sometimes, the incessant socialising and alcohol fog just becomes too much. It’s...

If you haven't noticed there has been a lot of mushroom content this year. To me mushroom foraging became a mindful practice over the last few months. Being fully present in the moment, outside, in nature has become my weekend respite.
I find the most fascinating the vast underground mycelium network or the 'internet of the soil' as some call it. Fungi use this network to communicate with each other and with other organisms. They warn neighbouring plants of potential threats and coordinate responses to environmental conditions. If you think about it, it's like people creating social networks and connections.
What we could learn from them, would be the interdependence and realisation that we're one. Some mushrooms and trees have symbiotic relationships and rely on those interconnected relationships for support and 'mushroom well-being'.
Finally, I'd like to say that I'd really like to write about something else but I'm not able to find the rights words. I just think that we lost our humanity. Let's not forget we're all interconnected.

Olympic Games Beijing 2022 are all wrapped up now. I've enjoyed watching the speed and the figure skaters the most. Probably the most interesting was watching athletes' Insta stories on their personal accounts and all the behind the scenes. I'm absolutely delighted for and his gold medal. This guy really has some wings 🚀. Winning the Berlin Marathon last year and now an Olympic medal!
But anyway, back to yoga. I found this image from Olympic Games in London in 1908. Danish gymnasts stretching with some partner yoga. I used to sometimes inlude a bit of partner yoga in my classes but this may be a thing of the past.
I'm curious to know, how do you feel about partnering with someone during a yoga class or exercise these days? Let me know in comments if that's an option for you or not 🙏

First time I came across a tibetan bowl was, believe it or not, in a restaurant in Thailand on the island Koh Lanta. After the day of riding scooters around the island, we found that little gem of a place, owned by Jack who welcomed us warmly, not just with a menu but some refreshers (much needed) and a smile. We started chatting and he brought a singing bowl, we had no idea how to use it.
Today I sometimes use it for meditation. I love the deep tones, tuning me into a more calm state.

Restrictions are gone and 'normal' life is back. But are our bodies ready for that? 🤸
The world's hips are tight. Being forced to stay at home for so long, we spent A LOT of time sitting down.
Our backsides 🍑 have become super tight and a lot of people suffer/ed sciatic pain. This pose, called Fire Log, stretches the outer hips, particularly the piriformis and when practiced daily can provide a relief with sciatica pain.

Set yourself a goal and then do it
I realised I never posted in my grid about Berlin... One of the best experiences I've ever had, first race in my life, first time in a skating pack with the best 'blue train' by Powerslide. I'm utterly grateful for the experience and I know this marathon was first of many 😎
For the numbers geeks: overall time 1:38:25, # 119th overall place, 9th in my age group 💛🏅
