🀝 How can we build a world where everyone can connect, communicate, and participate equally?

Observed every year on 27 June, the International Day of Deafblindness was established by the United Nations to raise awareness of deafblindness as a distinct disability that combines varying degrees of both vision and hearing loss. The date also marks the birthday of Helen Keller, whose life continues to inspire people around the world.

Deafblindness affects how people access information, communicate, and navigate daily life. While every person's experience is unique, many face barriers to education, employment, healthcare, transportation, and social participation. With the right support, accessible communication, and inclusive environments, people with deafblindness can live independent, fulfilling lives and make valuable contributions to society.

The day is an opportunity to recognise the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and equal rights, ensuring that no one is left behind.

🌍 This observance supports SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

🀝 What can we do?
πŸ‘‚ Learn about deafblindness and challenge misconceptions
β™Ώ Support accessible and inclusive spaces
πŸ’™ Promote equal opportunities in education, employment, and public life
πŸ“’ Advocate for the rights and voices of people with deafblindness

Inclusion begins by recognising that every person deserves the opportunity to communicate, participate, and thrive.

πŸͺ What would our communities look like without small businesses?

Observed every year on 27 June, the United Nations' Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day celebrates the vital role that small businesses play in driving economic growth, innovation, job creation, and sustainable development.

Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises account for approximately 90% of businesses worldwide, provide 60–70% of employment, and contribute significantly to local economies. From family-run shops and farms to start-ups and social enterprises, MSMEs are often the backbone of communities, creating opportunities and supporting livelihoods.

Despite their importance, many small businesses face challenges such as limited access to finance, technology, markets, and training. MSME Day highlights the need to support entrepreneurs and create an environment where businesses of all sizes can thrive.

🌍 MSMEs contribute directly to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 1: No Poverty.

🀝 What can we do?
πŸ›οΈ Support local and small businesses
πŸ’‘ Encourage entrepreneurship and innovation
πŸ“’ Promote fair and inclusive economic opportunities
🌱 Support businesses committed to sustainability and social impact

Strong small businesses help build stronger communities, more resilient economies, and a more sustainable future.

πŸ’¬ What is your favourite local small business, and how does it contribute to your community?
