The Cork City Council have recently opened a new 39 room project providing afforadable, supported student accommodation for young people coming from care or a homeless situation. Bishopsgrove is managed by the Cork Foyer working in conjunction with Focus Ireland, Tusla Aftercare and Liberty Street. It is a way of diverting young people away from homeless services and encouraging them to participate with third level education by provide safe, secure and affordable accommodation.
‘Having a place like this is the fulcrum from which to build a good life’ An innovative housing project is breaking new ground by setting young people on the cusp of homelessness on a new trajectory towards third-level education. Health Correspondent Catherine Shanahan visited Cork’s 39-bed Bishopsgrove campus to see for herself.
