🌱 “It’s not just about measuring grass- it’s about making better decisions.”
For West Cork farmer Sean Deasy, regular grass measuring is the foundation of his grazing plan every week.
📏 Knowing the covers.
🐄 Planning where cows will graze next.
🌱 Making decisions on bales, silage and grass utilisation.
As Sean says, the real value of Grassland Services is having both the data and the support- someone at the end of the phone to discuss the best option for the farm.
“For a one-man show, it makes perfect sense to have someone take on that job. It’s about consistency and having it done right.”

🌱 Better grass decisions. Better results. 🌱
“Since using Cork Grassland Services, our utilisation has increased because we’re not leaving a lot of trash in the paddock. We’re getting leafier grass, and that’s helping our fats and proteins too.”
🐄 Kevin Collins, dairy farmer in Timoleague, runs a 240-cow herd and is a fourth-generation beekeeper.
By using regular grass measuring, Kevin and farm manager John have the information they need to make timely decisions- whether they’re on or off farm.
The result?
✅ Reduced fertiliser use
✅ Improved grass utilisation
✅ Better-quality leafy grass
✅ More informed grazing decisions
Consistent measurements. Reliable information. Practical decisions that make a difference.

🌱 Precision grassland management = more from every hectare 🐄
This highly stocked farm is running at 6 cows/ha, where every day’s grass growth matters.
By measuring grass growth weekly, we can make informed decisions on rotation length and grazing covers. With a growth rate of 70kg DM/ha/day, the target is to keep 1,400kg DM/ha ahead of the cows while maintaining a 20-day rotation.
A lot of farms aim for a 20-day rotation, but when paddock records are checked, the reality can often be closer to the mid-to-high 20s.
Through accurate measurement and precision advice, we help farmers match grass supply with cow demand, keeping rotations on track and maximising farm performance.

🐄 “Cows grazing the right covers at the right time is where the money is made.”
Farming in Timoleague, West Cork, David Deasey manages a high-stocking-rate system, running 220 crossbred cows on a 130-acre milking platform.
At this stocking rate, there is no room for guesswork. Every grazing decision matters, and that’s why grass measuring is the backbone of the farm’s success.
💬 “Cork Grassland Services is essential to our profitability and farm management. It enables us to quantify and utilise the grass we grow because it’s managed correctly.”
By measuring grass and following a structured grazing plan, David can consistently graze the right covers at the right time, driving higher butterfat and protein percentages while maximising the value of every acre.
💬 “In my humble opinion, going with Cork Grassland Services is a no-brainer. Follow the programme and you will make money.”
